Samuel Delgado received his Bachelor of Arts, from Pennsylvania State University in 1978 and his JD, from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, DC in 1983. He also received a Masters degree in Law, LLM, (Oral Advocacy) from Georgetown University Law Center, through the prestigious "Prettyman/Stiller Fellowship." As a Prettyman Fellow, he taught at the Georgetown Criminal Justice Clinic while defending criminal cases in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, which formed the beginning of a long history as a teacher of criminal law.
Mr. Delgado has taught oral advocacy at Harvard Law School for over 12 year and has also lectured at Yale Law School. He was an Adjunct Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center and George Washington University Law School in Washington, DC. In addition, he has been a frequent lecturer at other universities in the Washington, DC area, including: American University; Catholic University, Columbus School of Law; University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law; and Antioch Law School.
Mr. Delgado was a public defender (and Training Director) at the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia. He was also an Assistant Federal Public Defender for the Federal District of Maryland. Until recently, he served as Assistant Public Defender at the Maryland Office of the Public Defender. In addition to defending criminal cases, Delgado has taught other public defenders during varied State and Federal conferences in Atlanta, Baltimore, Louisville, San Diego, and Washington, DC.
As a private attorney, Delgado has defended numerous federal drug trafficking cases, which required investigation in Venezuela, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. He is currently a private defense attorney focusing in criminal cases in the State and Federal courts of Washington, DC and Maryland.
During the past 30 years, Mr. Delgado has handled more than 200 homicide cases and has participated in over 150 jury trials.
